Boracay Island, voted one of the best beaches in the world. Boracay is the perfect island getaway which offers warm blue waters, powder-fine white sand, and a palm fringed 4 kilometer beach. It is located approximately 35 kilometers south of Manila and is at the north western tip of Panay Island. Boracay is about 7 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide with an area of 1,083 hectares.

Central Boracay where the population of 15,000 people is concentrated and where can you find the whitest and finest sand in the island. The northern and southern part of Boracay is hilly with the highest elevation of 100 meters above sea level. Boracay belongs to the municipality of Malay in Aklan province, and consists of Three barangays; Yapak in the North, Balabag in the center and Manoc-Manoc in the South.

History

Boracay took its name from the local word of cotton “borac”, in reference to the white, cotton-like color of the sand. “Boracay” according to another version means frothing and bubbling, a description of the waters by the shores of the island.

Weather and Climate

There are only two climates dominating in the island, the Northeastern Monsoon “Amihan” begins November and last until May where it is the ideal time to go to Boracay. Temperatures ranging from 25 degrees to 32 degrees Celsius. From March until June is summer time where temperature range from 28 degrees to 38 degrees Celsius, it is the most hottest time of the year. From July to November is the Southwestern Monsoon “Habagat”. This is the wettest season of the year. Foreign tourist flocked the island during this time where hotel accommodation is cheap and you can enjoy the island at its best.

1. Kite Surfing and Wind Surfing
Slicing the wind with a kite is one of the most thrilling aquatic sports experiences that everyone must have. For a five-day course, you can expertly read the tide, ride your board and maneuver your kite. There are several kite surfing and windsurfing centers that are located along Bolabog beach, which is just a few minutes away from the famous white beach of Boracay.

2. Horseback Riding
Although it's uncommon to be riding on the back of a horse on a beach, it does exist however in Boracay. For a minimal amount, not only will you have a grand tour of the island by the most gallant creatures of all, but you will feel you have the island for yourself.

3. Island Trekking
Discover the un-chartered territories of the island and be one with the nature by traveling from one tourist spot to another on foot, from Angol Point to Mount Luho, the highest point of Boracay. Just let your feet take you wherever you want to go. You can even hire a guide to take you through the easy or challenging routes of the island. Everywhere is walking distance anyway.

4. Cliff Jumping
Exude that devil may care attitude and jump or dive off the cliff at Angol, Diniwid or Puka without hesitation and climb back at the cliff feeling invigorated and ready for more. It is undeniably addictive. What’s great is that its free and you don’t have to bring any equipment at all, except your guts.

5. Island Hopping
Navigate the boat and explore the hidden beaches and coves of Boracay. You may even fish, snorkel, dive or up a picnic at your desired location. Its fun if your with a group of friends.

6. Paraw Sailing
Let the wind take you wherever the wind leads you and sail into the glorious sunset on this unique, double-winged, wind-driven boat that can only be ultimately enjoyed in Boracay, nowhere else. You may either cruise around the island, or you may go to the mainland and take a 10 minute tricycle ride to the bar by the river and go back to the island before dark. It is ideal for 2 to 6 people, and the boatmen takes care of the rest.

7. Ultimate Frisbee
Catch the beach fever by throwing and catching Frisbee with your friends or with the island locals along the long stretch of the White Beach. Now if you’re already aware of the mechanics of the game, then you may just join the locals in their daily afternoon pick-up games at the beach front of Leah’s Bar, Hey Jude, Bombom Bar or Pat’s Creek Bar.

8. Beach Volleyball
Get fit, increase your stamina and play a stress-free game of beach volleyball on the beachfront of Seawind Resort or Steakhouse Restaurant. Even if your alone and you want to play, go to those locations and you’ll find people who are always ready to compete with just about anyone.

9. Beach Tennis
Bring or borrow a racket and indulge in a singles or doubles game on the beachfront of Aria and Café del Sol, and order a glass of Margarita on the side.

10. Scuba Diving
Sign up for an introductory dive and explore the underwater life with the fishes at Friday’s Rock or be an expert diver and dive 130 feet below sea level at Yapak and discover how Pelagics move beneath the sea.

11. Indulge at Friday’s Mango Daiquiri
After taking a dip in the water, quench yourself with a glass of mango daiquiri at Friday’s Beach Resort and absorb the radiance of Boracay’s crystal white sand and sparkling blue water. It’s one of the best concoctions ever.

12. Take a slurp of Jonah’s Fruit Shakes

13. Take in the sunrise in Bolabog
Watching the sunset along the White Beach is not enough. 20. Chill-out at Puka Beach
Picnic and drink coconut juice straight from the fruit at Puka Beach. You can get there by paraw sailing, kayaking, motor biking, trekking, mountain biking or just ride a tricycle. But be aware that picking up of puka shells is not allowed.

21. Wall Climbing
Visit Patio Pacific or D’Mall and climb up their 11-meter rock wall. It’s a challenging and fun experience for both veteran and first-time climbers.

22. Golfing
Drive around the fairways, step on the green, and swing your clubs on Fairways and Bluewater’s 18-hole Par 72 World-Class Golf Course. Its gurgling creeks, rushing waterfalls and sparkling lakes justify its title as the “Golfing Jewel of the Pacific”.

23. Jogging
Put on your rubber shoes and jog along the 7 ½ kilometers stretch of Boracay’s White Beach or jog along the main road. It’s the most effective cardiovascular exercise and its free.

24. Parasailing
Let the parachute lift you up and make you fly, through parasailing. You’ll be transported by a motorboat to a platform in the middle of the sea before you can suit up and fly.

25. ATV
The Newest Craze in the Island. Traverse steepest and the most rugged road going to Mt. Luho. Just rent an ATV and travel the whole island.
